Young people from all over the world explore Valtellina with a sustainable trip: biking, canoeing and trekking to discover the territory. Rotary Club of Sondrio, together with the clubs in Bormio, Lecco and Colico, has organized a project named Valtellina Iron Camp, in the framework of the Youth Exchange created by Rotary International. Valtellina Iron Camp is about new generations, territory, sustainability: at Maganetti we’re always happy to support projects addressing these issues. That's why we’re among the companies that sponsor this camp, taking place throughout Valtellina from 17 June to 1 July with a group of people aged 18-24. The goal is to explore the province without using motor vehicles.
Bormio will be the starting point: after a short stay the kids will leave by bike in the direction of Colico, spending a night in the historic Ponte in Valtellina. The group will follow the cycle route Sentiero Valtellina on its 115 km, then cross the 11 km of the Natural Reserve of Pian di Spagna and Lago di Mezzola on canoes. After a night at a campsite in Novate, they’ll start a trek to Sondrio, following the Sentiero Roma route from Valcodera to Valmasino, to Valmalenco. After a few days in Sondrio, they’ll head to Lake Como for a sailing day.
The experience will be an interesting challenge for the kids and a great opportunity to promote sustainable tourism among the younger audience. It’s a new way to discover this territory: slowly, sustainably, changing with the seasons, promoting this rich environmental system and its different landscapes. That’s why Valtellina Iron Camp will become a documentary, narrating this adventure day by day from the point of view of the group. A professional team will film the documentary focusing on three elements: the riverside environment on Sentiero Valtellina, the Pian di Spagna and the lake, the high mountain landscapes of Sentiero Roma.
The key goals of Valtellina Iron Camp are clear: giving opportunities to young people, promoting a sustainable and responsible way of visiting Valtellina, creating new tools to publicize tourism as an industry. These points resonate with our commitment to sustainability and social responsibility towards Valtellina, so we have gladly contributed to the project. Have a great adventure, kids!
