Italy needs to take action if we want to fully develop the biogas industry: we need to unblock the resources already provided for in the PNRR and in the PNIEC, plan the incentives after 2025, act to support the conversion of plants, set minimum prices so that businesses can work with a clear and coherent system of standards.
These are some of the ideas contained in the document "The role of biogas and biomethane in the eco-energy transition" developed by the National Biomethane Technology Platform, coordinated by CIB and CIC: the theme is to ensure the full development of biogas production in Italy, in order to achieve the 2030 goals.
Presented during Ecomondo, this "road map" affects the entire biogas sector, including our industry since we use biomethane as fuel: different types of plants have specific issues, but the key point is the need for clear rules, set in advance and modeled on experience and best practices. Companies need reference points regarding rules, incentives, red-tape requirements when they invest and carry out important projects or partnerships than can create interesting results.
We know this from experience: our partnership with Cooperativa Speranza, built with the support of CIB, allows us to fuel our trucks with biogas from livestock waste, working together with an entity from the agricultural world. If we want to effectively focus on this solution to reduce emissions, Italy needs to create the conditions for companies to plan and carry out investments.
