Ski mountaineering and the Olympics: Maganetti supports Rocco Baldini

A young athlete from Valtellina, the dream of the 2026 Olympics and a goal we want to achieve together: Maganetti is now an official sponsor of Rocco Baldini, an athlete of the Ski mountaineering national team and the Army Sports Center. The first Olympic races of this sport will be held in Valtellina in 2026, in Bormio, and we’re proud to support Baldini on his journey towards this competition.

The 2026 Winter Olympics are going to be a great moment for ski mountaineering, especially for the athletes from Valtellina, and Rocco is no exception. He’s already experienced the amazing emotions created by the Games: in 2020 at the Youth Olympics in Lausanne he won the first gold medal in the history of ski mountaineering.

Since he was a child, Rocco has always loved nature, the mountains and the outdoors. As a kid he enjoyed playing soccer with PSG in Sondrio, then at middle school he started cross-country running. He then tried ski mountaineering and it was love at first sight. In 2014 Baldini entered the Polisportiva Albosaggia, a hotbed of talent for ski mountaineering, lining up many gifted athletes: from the very beginning he showed talent and determination, becoming an athlete of the national youth team and then winning a gold medal in Lausanne. Rocco has therefore joined the Army as an athlete, without ever losing its close connection with Valtellina and the mountains of this territory.

"Even when I’m not training or working on preparation, most of the time I’m somewhere in the mountains hiking or climbing - said Baldini -, I love being outdoors and doing sports on the mountains. I’m also a fan of vintage bikes, but riding my Vespa is more of an activity for the summer". Rocco divides his time between Montagna in Valtellina and the Army sports center in Courmayeur, obviously when he is not competing somewhere on the Alps.

"This year we haven’t started the racing season yet, because of the snow situation - he explained a few days before Christmas -, but now we’re finally starting. After the Italian championship at the end of December we’ll have the Universiadi in Sestriere in mid-January, followed immediately by the Italian sprint championship in San Martino di Castrozza, and then a race in Bormio for the World Cup, in February".

The primary goal of this season is "to qualify for the Olympics and get the call-up with the national team", explained Rocco, so in the coming weeks he’ll choose races mainly linked to this goal. Baldini is also looking forward to a few competitions that he doesn’t want to miss anyway: "In early March I’ll be at the World Championships in Switzerland - he said - then in April I want to race the Mezzalama Trophy, which is a true classic".

The goal of 2026 is always on top of the list: "Getting to the Olympics is possible, I’ll have to put in a lot of tenacity but it is the spirit of our sport," he remarked. With Maganetti we will accompany him in every step of this adventure: go Rocco!
